Recently I took the plunge into genetic genealogy. I have a few persistent brick walls in my family tree that I just cannot nail down with certainty unless I add this additional tool to my skill set.
Here is a great beginner’s guide on using GEDmatch (now Gedmatch Genesis) and the vast possibilities it offers for manipulating the scientific data to assist genealogical research by Jared Smith.
Genetic Genealogy using GEDmatch
My Gedmatch kit# is WR9116127. Are we a match? Drop me a note and let me know.
Lots of luck! I had mine done about a year ago & while it hasn’t helped with any brick walls as yet because of it I’m now in touch with a branch of the family in Australia. A cousin of my grandmother I hadn’t realised had emigrated. It’s also supported some of the paper research I’ve done – it’s always good to know when you’re on the right track!

So far I haven’t cracked any brick walls but I’m definitely confirming the lines I have already documented. I think I’ll be able to crack those brick walls once I really get the hang of it. It’s so fascinating! Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experiences with it.
